Hello Families!

One of the activities for the upcoming Healthy Planet Healthy Kids event --
our annual earth day festival with Star Academy -- on May 9 is the
classroom challenge to collect the most non-working markers for recycling.
Parents can help by keeping markers from the landfill at home or office and
send them with your child to school. Read note to teachers/students below
for more details. Thank you!

*Your classroom is invited to recycle all brands of plastic markers —
highlighters, dry-erase markers, sharpies — from the classroom, home or
office and to bring your collection to the Earth Day Fair at our school on
Thursday, May 9. *There will be a table and parent volunteers waiting for
students from TNS and Star Academy to drop off markers; they will weigh the
markers and record your contribution. We will announce the class with the
most recycled non-working markers.

The Crayola ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended
markers in the United States and Canada since 2013. Crayola uses advanced
technology to convert the plastic to "make wax compounds for asphalt and
roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to
heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.”

Thank you for your participation.
