Hello TNS Community,

At the PTA meeting this Thursday we'll have a very special guest. Amanda
Strong is a mom, food writer and founder of NYC Healthy School Food
Alliance.

This morning I attended one of their forums and Q&A with Stephen O'Brien,
Director of Strategic Partnerships for School Food NYC. It was extremely
informative. Stephen talked about how it took about 3 yrs to implement the
change to compostable trays and plates and all the logistical reasons
behind it in addition to how the School Food department works at the city
level.

In case you weren't aware, The Neighborhood School and Star Academy adopted
the Alternative Lunch Menu March 2018. It was a project that started
several years before my time. Ultimately after a year of discussions
between both schools including a meeting with the District Supervisor Larbi
Malajati and Stephen O'Brien the decision was made by both schools to make
the switch.

About a month ago I shared a survey to get some information about how
families particularly students felt about the new menu. Full disclosure, I
don't believe the results are 100% accurate as some responses were
completed during school hours. The answers were suppose to come from the
students and not the parents, apologies if that was not clear. The link to
the results does not include the comments section so I typed them up (see
attached). It's very clear how varied the tastes are among students.

There were 57 total survey respondents. 22 from STAR Academy and 35 TNS
families.
