Dear Neighborhood School Families,

During the month of January, teachers are hard at work in the evenings and
on the weekends writing your children’s progress reports. Progress reports
tell the story of a child as a learner; they are descriptive, filled with
precise detail, and reveal a child’s interests, strengths and areas for
growth. Children seldom progress in a neat and predictably-sequenced
manner; each child is a unique individual with different life experiences
and no two developmental pathways are the same. As I read over your
children’s reports, I am struck by how each one paints a distinct picture
of each child. I know you will cherish reading them. Reports will go home
the first week in February.

Mark Your Calendars:

   -

Please join us for our Prospective Parents’ Night at Eastwood (200
Clinton Street @ East Broadway) this Tuesday at 6pm. This event is a
‘mix and mingle’, not a school fundraiser. I hope to see you there and feel
free to invite other families that you think might be interested in
learning more about The Neighborhood School.
   -

Please join me for my Morning Hour this Wednesday at 8:40am in the PTA
Room for a discussion about multi-aged classrooms (this topic came out
of our last conversation). I encourage you to read this short article
ahead of time: Mixed-Age Grouping: What Does the Research Say, and How
   Can Parents Use This Information?
   <http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/content4/mixed.age.group.pn.html>
   -

Please come to our Family Support Group this Friday at 8:30am in the PTA
Room, facilitated by our early childhood social worker, Alice Auth.
   -

There is no school Monday, January 18th in honor of Martin Luther King,
   Jr. Day.

Have a good week,

Dyanthe
