Dear Neighborhood School Families,

Twice each year (in November and March) we hold family conferences. They
provide an opportunity for teachers, together with the child, to talk with
the adults in each child's family about the child's work and progress in
school. Family conferences are next week. The building will be open
for evening
conferences on Wednesday, November 4th. Thursday, November 5th is a
half-day for conferences. If you have not done so yet, please make sure
to sign-up for a conference time with your child’s teacher.

Picture Days are this week! There has been a slight change in the
schedule: all class photos will be taken on Tuesday. Individual and
siblings pictures will still take place as originally scheduled.

It is still not too late to turn in your orders! You can give them into
your child’s teacher or the office.

All NYC public schools are required to practice the protocol they will
follow for different kinds of emergencies. We have already practiced
several fire drills this year. We will have our first lockdown drill this
week. In a lockdown, the “danger” is assumed to be inside of the building.
Teachers lock the classroom doors and staff and students sit quietly.
Neighborhood School teachers discuss different drill practices with
children well ahead of time, so that they feel safe. They communicate
that this is our school and we want to make sure that only people who
belong here are here. Please contact me if you have any questions about
any of our school safety drills.

Do you know that we offer free hot breakfast each morning from 7:45 - 8:15
a.m. to all TNS students? All your child has to do is check-in with
Ahyesha at the breakfast counter. If your child arrives after 8:15, she
can still get breakfast; she just needs to get a special pass from the
office.

Mark Your Calendars:

   -

SING is Wednesday at 8:45 in the auditorium. Please also join us for
the bake sale in the lobby beforehand.
   -

Halloween Parade: Please remember to save candy and costumes for the
parade! We will meet in the yard Saturday at 5:30 pm to parade to
Tompkins Square Park. See you there!
   -

Original Works: I hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to
permanently showcase your child’s artwork while raising PTA money to help
pay for the valuable learning experiences we provide our children! The
deadline for submitting your order is November 2. If you have any
questions about Original Works program, feel free to contact me at
   bbrreetttt at gmail.com.
   -

Election Day is November 3. No School (for students).
   -

Thursday, November 5 is a half-day for family conferences. Dismissal is
   at 11:35 a.m.

Warmly,

Dyanthe
