Dear Neighborhood School Families,

Dance classes for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders begin this week.  This program
gives students opportunities to explore their artistic voice through
movement, choreography, and improvisation. Teaching artist Chigui Santiago
will work with Sofia and Jane/Joanne’s classes on Wednesdays and Grace,
Laura/Michiko, Alexis/Corinthia, and Hannah/Desmond’s classes on Thursdays.
 Students should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on dance days!

All students must stay with their grown-ups as they exit the building.
Please help our safety agents, Agent Bell and Agent Jackson keep children
safe during this busy time; do not allow students to run ahead as you exit
the building.  Only students with permission to self-dismiss may leave the
building on their own.

This year, I will host an informal gathering for families each month to
discuss topics of interest to our community (so please email me your
suggestions).  The first “Morning Hour” will be Wednesday, October 14 in
the PTA Room right after drop off.  We will discuss progressive education
and in preparation, I encourage you to read Alfie Kohn’s article, Progressive
Education: Why It’s Hard to Beat, But Also Hard to Find
<http://www.alfiekohn.org/article/progressive-education/>.  There are some
pointed questions at the end to spur collective reflection.

   Please join us in the Library on Tuesday, October 6th at 8:30am for our
   Middle School Meeting for 5th Grade Families with Jimmy Bueschen, Middle
   School Choice Coordinator.

   The PTA Executive Meeting is Thursday at 8:30 in the PTA Room.  All are
   welcome.

   Our first Rummage Sale of the year is Friday after school.
   -

   Columbus Day is Monday, October 12.  No school.
